Timed Challenge

This week I decided to try and challenge myself. I decided to set a timer for 15 minutes and see what I could come up with. My challenge? Design a brand logo for a shampoo targeted to men. Here is what I came up with.

Okay, right off the bat, I can look at this now and see that the dots were a bad idea. This makes the label look like a band-aid. If I were to have continued, I think I would have done opaque blue vertical lines across the green rectangle instead. Next time I might have gone farther and tried to design the entire bottle. Could I design a bottle in 15 minutes? I’m not sure, I’ve never designed a product before.

Let’s try it.

Hmmm. Having never done any product design, I don’t think it is a total failure. The label I made doesn’t quite fit on this particular bottle. Are there better programs for 3D design?

That might be a topic for a future blog as I explore different programs. I like the timed challenges though. I think that might become my design warm up. It’s good to force yourself to be creative in short bursts, to not second guess your decisions and just go with your gut. I might take this approach to my other creative endeavors as well.
